Chris Smyser grabbed his second victory of the season and first at Lake Ozark Speedway on Saturday. Then, on Sunday, Johnny Fennewald captured his fourth main-event win of the year and first-ever win at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) on Sunday.

Last Saturday, the ULMA weekend kicked off with a strong field of cars on hand at Lake Ozark Speedway. Aaron Marrant, Dustin Hodges, and Larry Ferris each collected heat race victories to set up the starting grid for the main event. Hodges earned the pole position and started up front alongside outside pole-sitter and fellow heat-race winner Chris Smyser. Smyser ultimately secured his second victory of the season from his second starting position and beat Larry Ferris to the line for the win. Hodges finished strong in third while Fennewald finished fourth, one spot of Jason Russell to round out the top five for the night.

On Sunday at CMS, 18 cars raced in three preliminary heat races and a 20-lap main event. From the latest CMS press release, “The 18 Lucas Cattle Company ULMA late model drivers produced some solid heat racing action with Johnny Fennewald, Todd McCoin and Aaron Marrant earning the preliminary wins. For the 20-lap late model feature event, Fennewald started on poll and in the early stages, Aaron Marrant and Todd McCoin raced for second and third. Chris Cox took advantage later in the race and moved past Marrant for second. In the end, Fennewald was strongest and ultimately captured the victory. Cox was second at the line followed by Marrant, Cordray, and Cody Holtkamp. For additional information visit www.centralmissourispeedway.net.

On this week’s point standings, Marrant has moved into the lead in search for his first-ever ULMA Championship. He is just two points ahead of former leader Holtkamp but both Marrant and Holtkamp likely have their eyes on Fennewald as he has now advanced to third in the overall standings with just four points-earning events remaining.

Drivers are reminded that the I-35 Speedway way website is not updated to represent the September 30th points-ending race there but we have confirmed the date is correct, the 30th will be the final ULMA points-earning night of the season.
