August 29, 2017 - Veteran racer Shane Essary collected his first-ever ULMA Late Model victory last Saturday night at Lucas Oil Speedway during the track’s final night of their regular weekly racing series. Essary, from Aurora, Missouri, dominated the field for all 20 laps of the race. Essary was well in control of the event until the final portion of the race; however, track championship challenger Johnny Fennewald of Appleton City pressured Essary for the lead during the race’s late-stage caution flag restarts; however, Essary persevered and kept all challengers behind him for the victory. Fennewald finished second followed by Aaron Marrant, Dustin Walker and Tommy Cordray. Heat race wins went to Fennewald, Marrant, and Essary.

The speedway track championship came down to three drivers heading into the final night with Aaron Poe, Johnny Fennewald, and former track champion Aaron Marrant. This season it was Fennewald who prevailed on the final night with his runner-up finish to collect his first-ever track championship at the speedway. Although the regular race season at Lucas Oil Speedway has concluded, there is still plenty of action set for the track into October. For event details, visit www.LucasOilSpeedway.com.
