August 16, 2017 - Two more Lucas Cattle Company ULMA point’s-earning events were held over the weekend in which Dustin Walker of Bolivar, Missouri and Aaron Marrant of Richmond, Missouri claimed ULMA victories at Lakeside Speedway on Friday and Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) on Saturday. For Walker, it was his first-ever ULMA victory, for Marrant, it was his third of the year.

Action began on Friday night in Kansas City at Lakeside Speedway where the RacinDirt.com Double-Down Showdown was finally concluded after two previous attempts that were weathered out. Johnny Fennewald ultimately claimed the Double-Down Showdown trophy and added money but it was Dustin Walker who came away with the race win on a night of high attrition at the big and wide sweeping track.

Walker began the night by claiming the win in the opening heat race over fourth-starting Johnny Fennewald and Larry Ferris. Marrant took the win during the second heat race ahead of Ryan Petersheim and Tommy Cordray. Marrant earned the pole-starting position with Walker starting to his outside; however it was Walker who prevailed in the main event as front-runners Marrant, Dustin Hodges, and Johnny Fennewald all suffered mechanical gremlins. Walker held off fifth-starting Tommy Cordray for the victory with Cordray second, Ferris third, Cody Holtkamp fourth, and Petersheim rounding out the top five.

On Saturday, drivers moved back east for an appearance at CMS with 18 drivers on hand for the action. Fennewald, Aaron Poe, and Marrant claimed wins in the three preliminary heat races. Warrensburg’s Poe earned the pole position with Marrant to his outside. From the onset, it was evident Marrant would be tough to beat. With his past Modified championships and given his preferred line at CMS, Marrant eventually sailed on to his third win of the year and third different track victory as he also has wins at Lucas Oil Speedway and Lakeisde Speedway earlier this year. Fennewald advanced from fifth to take the runner-up spot over Cordray, Poe, and Lane Ehlert inside the top five. ULMA drivers will make one final visit this year to CMS on Sunday, September 3rd as part of the track’s annual Labor Day weekend special events roster. Johnny Fennewald and Aaron Poe are locked into a tight battle for the track championship with just 7 points separating the drivers from each other at the top of the standings.
