June 26, 2017 - RacinDirt.com presents the first-ever “Double-Down Showdown” this Thursday, June 29th at Lucas Oil Speedway and Friday, June 30th at Lakeside Speedway! This special two-day bonus payout event was recently put together for drivers competing in both events.

The format will simply be that participating drivers will compete in a combined points challenge separate from ULMA championship points, which will still be awarded. A special point’s scheme will be used and points from both events will determine the top three payout positions with a $250 bonus for first, second will earn $150, and third will go away with an extra $100. There are no entry fees or forms to fill out, ULMA will keep track of drivers who attend both of this week’s events. All this is possible courtesy of Racin.Dirt.com!

Last weekend at Callaway Raceway, defending ULMA Champion Dustin Hodges of Centralia, Missouri raced from fourth on the grid to the front and scored his third ULMA and Callaway Raceway feature win of the year. Current point’s leader Cody Holtkamp was second, followed by Chris Cox, Dillon Hoover and Gage Wineland. For the remaining schedule and event information visit www.callawayraceways.com.

Johnny Fennewald flew to his second ULMA feature win of the season last weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway over a solid field of 24 cars. Fourth on the grid proved to be a popular starting spot for ULMA winners this weekend as fourth was the position Fennewald started in before going on to claim the win over Iowa’s Todd Shute, Jon Sheets, Cody Holkamp, and Kanyan Methvin.

Some highlights from the latest Lucas Oil Speedway press release about this week’s "Thursday Night Thunder” includes the following information. Upon further review and clarification, ULMA announces the following technical rules bulletin: Due to driver concerns and other Sanctioning bodies and Series going back to allowing grooving and siping, ULMA will NOT proceed with the new tire rule and will maintain the current tire rule as follows: Hoosier D-55 WRS-2 Spec Tire, or Hoosier D-55 WRS. Grooving and siping of tires is allowed. No softening agents or chemical agents may be added to tires at any time. All tires must “Cold” durometer a minimum of 55 prior to pre-race inspection, NO TOLERANCE ALLOWED. After any race, the tires must “Hot” durometer 50 or above. Any tire reading below 50 will result in a disqualification for that race and will be subject to tire testing. Any tire “Hot” that durometers higher than 60 will be subject to tire testing.

Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Missouri recently informed ULMA that it would no longer be able to host anymore ULMA events for the remainder of the year due to low driver participation. This was an amicable split with David and Janelle Claypool, owners and operators of the Speedway. ULMA wishes to thank the Claypool’s and their staff over the years for allowing ULMA events to run at the track.

ULMA is considering some replacement options for the Randolph County Raceway dates that were scheduled. As we stated to promoters who agreed to run events with us in 2017 when we first put the ULMA schedule together in late 2016, we WILL NOT double-book any ULMA-sanctioned events, we gave these promoters our word that we were not going to do this and we will not go back on our word. When we can make further announcements about additional events we will make announcements through our driver email group, our social media outlets and on our website at www.ulmaracing.com.

Sadly, ULMA recently learned of the passing of one of the founding fathers of ULMA, Tony Wineland of California, Missouri. Everyone at ULMA is devastated by the news and sends condolences to Tony’s family, extended race family, and all those who knew this great man. Tony's tenacity, wit, and knowledge were just a few of his many outstanding traits that he brought to ULMA. We will all miss him dearly and forever recognize his achievements and affiliation with this association.

Tony’s funeral arrangements are as follows: Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home - Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 from 5 – 8 P.M. at the funeral home. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Officiating will be Mr. Jack Bowlin. Burial will be at the California City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Brantley Wineland Education Fund c/o the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bowlin – Cantriel Funeral Services, 100 S. Oak Street California, MO 65018.

All competing drivers must either purchase the yearly license or a temporary license to race in this weekend’s events. The 2017 license form is printable from the ULMA website.
