June 15, 2017 - Two more drivers added their names to the Lucas Cattle Company ULMA 2017 season winner’s list last weekend. Chris Cox of Jefferson City, Missouri and Aaron Poe of Warrensburg, Missouri drove to feature wins at Callaway Raceway on Friday and Lucas Oil Speedway respectively. For Poe, it was his first-ever Late Model victory and the third ULMA victory for veteran Chris Cox.

At Callaway Raceway on Friday, Cox and defending ULMA Champion Dustin Hodges started the main event on the front row. Current point’s leader Cody Holtkamp started the event third but it was Cox who prevailed in the event. Dustin Hodges crossed the line second behind Cox with Dylan Hoover moving into third at the checkers. Holtkamp and Todd McCoin completed the top five. ULMA racers have a Friday off this week at Callaway Raceway due to a special event but are set to return to action on Friday, June 23rd. Poe took the lead from Binning just past the halfway point of the 20-lap main event and despite a late-race caution, grabbed his first-ever ULMA Late Model victory. Johnny Fennewald, who started 12th advanced to third at the finish; Fennewald later went on to win the USRA Modified feature. Ninth-starting Aaron Marrant was fourth, followed by Larry Ferris rounding out the top five. Daniel Jessen, ULMA point’s leader Cody Holtkamp, Joe Walkenhorst, Dylan Hoover, and Garrett Essary rounded out the top ten. Heat race victories went to 16-year old Kaeden Cornell, Binning, and Larry Jones. ULMA racers are set to return to Wheatland for action on Saturday, June 24th. Driver intending on running the June 30th event at Lakeside Speedway as part of the Triple Crown Shootout will need to contact ULMA Board Member Sam Stoecklin to confirm their appearance at the event, which ULMA was informed by speedway officials will require at least 16 cars or the race will not happen. All competing drivers must either purchase the yearly license or a temporary license to race in this weekend’s events. The 2017 license form is printable from the ULMA website.
