April 12, 2017 - The off-season is finally officially over and to no one’s surprise, former two-time Lucas Cattle Company ULMA Champion Jason Russell quickly found his way back to victory lane. After attempting only two races last season when he focused on Modified racing, Russell’s 27th career win came at Lucas Oil Speedway, where he is also a former track champion.

Although Russell led all 25 laps of the season lid-lifter, there was no lack of competition as the field rundown reads like a who’s who of ULMA racing with 31 cars on hand! Another previous modified driver made a big splash in his ULMA debut with a runner-up finish being posted by Dylan Hoover. Aaron Poe posted his best-ever ULMA finish by coming home third ahead of former main-event winners Larry Ferris and Chris Smyser. Main event results may be found at www.ulmaracing.com.

Earlier in the evening, three jam-packed heat races set the stage for the main event. Lane Ehlert finished ahead of Chad Richwine and Aaron Marrant in heat one while Smyser outdistanced Poe and Hoover to score the win in heat two. The third and final heat race went to Russell ahead of Ferris and McCoin. Chris Cox captured the B-main over former track champion Tommy Cordray and Cody Holtkamp.
